Fire Does $75,000 Damage to McLean Home

Smoke alarms alerted three occupants to fire Monday morning; the adult and two children escaped unharmed.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a single-family house fire on Monday, at approximately 11 a.m., in the McLean area of Fairfax County. The home is located in the 6600 block of Tucker Avenue.

Firefighters encountered smoke coming from the roof and chimney upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack and brought the fire under control in approximately 10 minutes.

Working smoke alarms were located in the structure and alerted the three occupants, one adult and two children, to the fire. The occupants evacuated the home prior to the arrival of the fire department. Red Cross support was offered but declined by the occupants. There were no injuries.

Damage is estimated at $75,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. The cause of the fire was a combustible material too close to a heat source.
