Gas Line Breaks In Tysons, Residents Evacuate

Hundreds of apartment residents in Tysons evacuated Thursday after a gas line was damaged.

TYSONS, VA—Apartment residents had been temporarily ousted due to a gas leak in their building Thursday, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue crews say.

Around 11 a.m., firefighters responded to the gas leak in the 8300 block of Greensboro Drive. According to fire officials, the leak resulted from a damaged four-inch gas lane.

Hundreds were evacuated from two impacted buildings,which each have 250 apartments. About 75 to 100 people have been relocated to a local center.

Firefighters stayed on scene as Washington Gas repaired the leak. As of Thursday afternoon, the buildings are safe again, and residents have returned to their apartments. No injuries have been reported.
