Great Falls Safeway Reopens With Renovations

The store expanded food selections and added new self-checkout stations and food display cases.

GREAT FALLS, VA—The Great Falls Safeway at 9881 Georgetown Pike reopened after renovations with a ribbon cutting on Saturday, Feb. 16.

Dranesville District Supervisor John Foust and Great Falls Citizens Association President Bill Canis joined Safeway leaders and staff for the reopening. To mark the occasion, Safeway presented donations to Best Buddies Langley and The Shepherd Center of Great Falls. The New Line Brass Band provided musical entertainment, and guests got refreshments and free gifts.

"We are pleased to share renovations that enhance our customers’ shopping experience," said Tom Lofland, president of Safeway’s eastern division, in a statement. "We have added new features that greatly expand our selections."

The store has four new self-checkout counters and offers home delivery and Instacart service with rush delivery. The customer service desk now allows customers to buy money orders, send money via Western Union and pay bills.

With the improvements come expanded item selections. The renovated store includes a produce section with all new fixtures and refrigeration. Along with new organic and regular produce options, the store has more fresh-cut fruits and vegetables, salad dressings, juices and kombucha.

The deli has an expanded prepared food selection, which includes hot foods, salads and sandwiches. Shoppers can also find new Italian specialty meats and an expanded specialty cheese selection. The meat and seafood department has a new service meat case offering custom-cut meats from Safeway butchers and more natural and organic poultry, beef and ground beef choices. The seafood department has expanded wild, natural and organic seafood varieties.

On the sweeter side, the bakery has a new cake case displaying single cupcakes and handcrafted cakes as well as a grab-and-go dessert case. A new cream island case features selections of single serve desserts, gourmet cream goods and fresh fruit dessert offerings. There are also new pastry and bread cases.

Last but not least, the beer and wine department got expanded space and a new selection of premium wines and more local craft beers. The store has additional products in the non-food categories as well.

The Great Falls Safeway is open from 5 a.m.-11 p.m. daily.
