McLean Schools Among Top In Virginia On 2022 Niche List

MCLEAN, VA — Niche, a platform providing information on schools and colleges released its 2022 best school district and school rankings on Monday. The eighth annual ranking looks at 94,491 public schools, 2,489 private schools, and 11,846 school districts nationwide.

McLean schools made an appearance on several lists. McLean High School ranks third for best public high schools in Virginia and best college prep high schools in Virginia. It is sixth for best public high school teachers in Virginia and best high schools for STEM in Virginia.

Langley High School follows as fourth for best public high schools in Virginia and best college prep high schools in Virginia. The school ranks seventh for best high schools for STEM in Virginia and 13th for best public high school teachers in Virginia.

Fairfax County Public Schools as a whole is the sixth-best school district in Virginia and sixth best for athletics. It's also the 11th best for diversity in Virginia, 17th best to teach in Virginia, 24th for best teachers in Virginia, and 33rd for safest school districts in Virginia.

On the private school side, The Madeira School was named the top private high school in Virginia. Nationally, it is the 15th best all-girls high school and 31st best boarding school in the U.S.

The Potomac School ranked third on the top private schools in Virginia list and is first on the top private K-12 schools in Virginia. In Virginia, it is the third-best college prep private high school and fourth-best high school for STEM. Nationally, it is the 58th best private K-12 school.

BASIS Independent McLean ranks fourth among private high schools in Virginia but is the top college prep private school in Virginia. It ranks second among high schools for STEM in Virginia and best private K-12 schools in Virginia. Nationally, it is the 56th best high schools for STEM and 60th best private K-12 school.

Niche school rankings differ from traditional rankings by not relying solely on factors like test scores and academic performance. The rankings incorporate ratings from current students, alumni, and parents as well as quantitative data from the U.S. Department of Education and other sources to evaluate teachers, resources, facilities and more. Rankings are available on the city, DC metro region, state and national level.
