McLEAN, VA — Hilton — based in McLean — is America’s best company to work for in 2019, according to Fortune’s annual list released on Thursday.

The Virginia-based company jumped to the No.1 spot in 2019 after placing No.33 on the list in 2018. Fortune writes that the company’s ascent is thanks to several employee-focused changes, including more comfortable work wear and upgrading spaces used by employees.

Six Virginia businesses placed on Fortune’s 100 best companies to work for list.

The Virginia companies on the list are:

  • No. 1 Hilton
  • No. 29 Navy Federal Credit Union
  • No. 33 CarMax
  • No. 39 Capital One Financial
  • No. 86 Custom Ink
  • No. 98 Mars

Fortune says of Hilton: "... In early 2018 the company launched a partnership with Under Armour to have the sports apparel giant redesign lighter, more comfortable work wear. That’s just one of several employee-focused changes that have crowned the 100-year-old Hilton as the Best Company to Work For in America. It’s sweet validation for (CEO Chris) Nassetta, who upon taking the reins at Hilton in 2007 found an organization that “had lost our way a bit,” he said. “We forgot that we are a business of people serving people, and the corporate environment got very disconnected from the front line.”
