In this list, Niche prefers private schools. Only two of the top 30 spots are public schools. Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Technology in the Fairfax County Public Schools is No. 1, followed by the private Madeira School, Potomac School, Norfolk Academy and St Anne's-Befield School. Of the public school systems on the list, Fairfax County, Arlington and Loudon County are most represented.

It is important to remember that every school on this top 100 list receives either an A+ or an A for an overall score from Niche.
