How McLean Precincts Voted In Virginia Governor Election
While Republican Glenn Youngkin won the governor's race, many McLean precincts favored Democrat Terry McAuliffe and some favored Youngkin.

MCLEAN, VA — While Republican Glenn Youngkin claimed victory in the Virginia governor's race, many but not all McLean area precincts favored Democratic candidate Terry McAuliffe, according to unofficial election results. Voting totals are available on the county and precinct levels.
Overall, there were 281,679 votes for McAuliffe, 151,707 votes for Youngkin and 2,244 votes for Liberation Party candidate Princess Blanding in Fairfax County with 249 of 250 precincts reporting. Votes that would still need to be counted include any provisional ballots and absentee ballots postmarked by Tuesday and received by noon on Friday. Results will be certified by the state on Nov. 15.
In House of Delegates races, Democrats representing the McLean area won re-election — Kathleen Murphy in the 34th district and Rip Sullivan in the 48th district. No media networks have called the House of Delegates majority yet, but projections expect Republicans to take the majority.

Most McLean area precincts favored McAuliffe, although some percentages were higher than others. The highest percentage for McAuliffe was 83.48 percent from mail-in absentee voting in all parts of the 8th congressional district in Fairfax County. Mail-in and in-person voting accounted for a significant portion of Fairfax County's vote totals.
Both candidates have a local connection; McAuliffe lives in McLean and Youngkin lives in Great Falls. The highest percentage from an Election Day McLean area precinct for McAuliffe was 62.03 percent at the Westhampton precinct. The precinct with the highest percentage for Youngkin was 56.49 percent in the Great Falls precinct.
