Boone Takes Athlete of the Week

Senior quarterback throws a pair of touchdown passes in loss to Robinson

Oakton lost its second-straight Concorde District game last Friday, but it was no fault of quarterback Jimmy Boone's, as the senior threw two touchdown passes to keep his team in the game.

His efforts earned him Oakton Patch's Athlete of the Week honors.

Boone hooked up with Charley Dixon for a 50-yard score to tie the game at 7. On the last play of the third quarter, he hit Luke Willis for a 45-yard touchdown on a 3rd-and-18 which briefly put Oakton ahead, 14-7. Robinson went on to win the game, 21-14.

The Concorde District is proving to be the toughest in the VHSL AAA Northern Region, and Oakton Coach Joe Thompson said Robinson simply played a better game.

"I think like every game in the Concorde, you have two pretty evenly matched teams, and it comes down to executing and having your players make plays," Thompson said. "Their players made plays. Our players made plays. They just made a few more than we did."
