Drug, Fraud Violations on the Rise in Fair Oaks

OAKTON, VA — Fairfax County has released crime statistics for 2016 for the Fair Oaks District and the rest of the county, and overall the county saw a 2 percent increase in crime in 2016 compared to the year before. Fair Oaks saw significant increases in drug and fraud violations.

The crime statistics page, which was released by the county on Wednesday, allows you to view overall crime stats and also narrow it down to police districts.

The Fair Oaks District, which includes Oakton, reported 39 sex crimes in 2016, compared to 22 in 2015. Kidnappings fell, but assaults rose from 643 to 683.

Crimes against property rose for Fair Oaks from 2,491 to 2,695 in the district, and crimes against society jumped from 775 to 1,061 from 2015 to 2016. The main drivers, respectively, are fraud offenses that increased from 495 to 625, and drag/narcotic offenses that climbed from 628 to 959.

“The mission of the Fairfax County Police Department is to prevent and fight crime through community engagement and information sharing, and it is this partnership that keeps Fairfax County the safest jurisdiction of its size in the United States," Fairfax County Police Chief Col. Edwin Roessler said in a statement.
