The Northern Virginia Conservation Trust (NVCT), a Virginia based non-profit land trust that has been a leader in land conservation for almost 20 years, will host “The Oakton Trolley Station September Showcase,” on Sunday, September 23 at 5:00 pm at 2923 Gray St., Oakton, VA 22124.
Here is your chance to experience the last remaining trolley station along the Historic Washington and Fairfax Electric Railway, the Oakton Trolley Station. Hang out on the porch where so many did from 1905 to 1939 (when the railway ceased operation).
The historic Trolley Station is a three-story structure with a standing seam metal gable roof and a shed-roofed wrap-around porch. Built in 1905, the Station is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Virginia Registry of Historic Places, and the Fairfax County Inventory of Historic Sites. Preserved by NVCT in 2011, the Property also includes the trace of the raised trolley roadbed along an undisturbed corridor on one of the three parcels comprising the Property. From an ecological standpoint, the Property contains important open space in a built-out section of the County; and it provides significant tree cover and wildlife corridor in a heavily populated area largely devoid of such amenities.
