Flint Hill Launches Campaign for New Middle School Building

$10 million gift kickstarts $20 million fundraising effort

On January 26, Flint Hill School made school history by kicking off Momentum — Campaign for Flint Hill.

This $20 million campaign to build a new Middle School and remodel Flint Hill's Lower School was launched during Flint Hill's annual Winterfest, where hundreds of members of the School community gathered to hear the news.

The new building will be constructed adjacent to Flint Hill's Upper School Campus on Jermantown Rd., and will feature 16 classrooms; an innovation hub with dedicated space for computer science, maker education, and robotics projects; an art studio; quiet study rooms; and a large commons with cafeteria seating. A sprawling terrace will serve as a gathering space for students and members of the broader community, with access to a new concession stand and playground. The project will also bring expanded parking to that campus.

"A lot of thought has gone into creating this building," said Flint Hill's Headmaster, John Thomas. "As with everything we do here, it's been intentional, deliberate and strategic. This will be our next turning point. This will further the momentum of the School."

Flint Hill's Lower School will receive a facelift with reconfigured classrooms, updated furniture and carpeting and fresh paint.

Thanks to a generous $10 million gift from the Peterson family, and additional funds raised before the campaign's public launch, the School has already raised $16,146,565. If the campaign goal is reached this spring, the School will break ground on the new building in May 2019 with a goal to open its doors during the fall of 2020.
