Ice Hockey: Cougars Win Third In A Row With Victory Over Chargers
Oakton defeated Chantilly 10-5 Sunday night at the Ashburn Ice House
won its third consecutive game with a 10-5 victory over Chantilly High on Sunday night at the Ashburn Ice House.
The Chargers kept the game close in the first period, entering the second tied at two goals apiece. But the Cougars put the game out of reach in the second period.
"We sort of wore them down as the game went on," said Oakton head coach John Alexa after the game. "We were able to sustain pressure in their zone and just stuck to our game plan to come away with the victory."

Their game plan was to stop Chantilly's two main scoring threats in senior Peter Wylder and junior Chris Howland. Wydler finished the game with two goals and three assists while Howland scored three goals.
Oakton's Craig Thomas, despite two minor penalties, scored two goals and notched three assists. His fellow senior teammates Dustin Ward-Dahl and Sean Miller also scored two goals. Similar to their Friday night , Oakton put up a high number of shots on goal, totaling 39 in the game.

"Chantilly definitely didn't quit. They didn't roll over," Alexa said. "After that high scoring second period, we put it out of reach but it was a tough game right up until the end."
The Cougars will have a two-week layoff from NVSHL play during the winter break for high schools, but will play their annual alumni game Dec. 30 at the Ashburn Ice House, which pits current players against Oakton alumni. Their next NVSHL game will be 7 p.m. Jan. 7 against Bishop Ireton High School at the Mt. Vernon RECenter Hockey Rink.
