Oakton High Marching Band Enters Metallica Competition

[Vienna, VA, November 17, 2023] – The Oakton High School Marching Cougars, a prestigious 25-year Virginia Honor Band, has submitted an entry into Metallica's inaugural marching band competition, "For Whom the Band Tolls." Metallica has brought their legendary presence to the world of marching bands by inviting high schools and colleges from across the nation to showcase their musical prowess in this unique online competition.

Known for their exceptional musicality and precision, the Marching Cougars submitted a video of their 2023 show, titled “Parade to Black” featuring The Unforgiven, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Turn the Page [a frequent cover by Metallica], The Memory Remains, and Enter Sandman. Band Director, Dr. Jamie VanValkenburg, selected the show to align with his vision of the Marching Cougars as a band that engages both performers and the audience through thrilling visuals and dynamic sound. Metallica's iconic tunes offer a unique and memorable experience for everyone involved.

The Marching Cougars will be competing for $15,000 in prizing in the category for high school bands with less than 75 members.
