Oakton Resident Displaced After Home Insulation Catches Fire

No one was injured when the attic insulation caught fire in an Oakton home.

OAKTON, VA—An Oakton resident is displaced after attic insulation caught fire in a home Tuesday night.

Around 8:08 p.m. Fairfax County Fire and Rescue units responded to the house fire in the 9700 block of Bunchberry Place. Firefighters found a small fire in the attic of the two-story home and quickly extinguished it. There were no injuries.

The resident had discovered the fire when smelling something burning after returning home. Smoke alarms were installed but did not activate due to the size and location of the fire.

Fire investigators determined insulation caught fire due to a recessed light fixture with a heat bulb.

Initial damage estimates from the fire are $37,500. Red Cross assistance was declined.
