How LGB(T ) Research Can Reduce Stigma, Prejudice, Discrimination and Violence - Sunday, March 20 in Oakton

Join the discussion at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fairfax, 2709 Hunter Mill Rd. in Oakton, VA on Sunday, March 20 at 12:45pm. The event will be held in the UUCF Sanctuary Building, the large main church building to the right, coming from the parking lot.
Beginning with a brief summary of 60 Years of LGB(T) research and a detailed definition of terms, Dr. Anderson will describe the LGBT population and the structural/institutional forms of sexual stigma that it faces, including prejudice, discrimination and violence. Research suggests powerful new ways to reduce each of these destructive elements based on the application of research-based insights to struggles in the real world.
Speaker bio: Clinton W. Anderson, PhD, is the Director of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Concerns Office at the American Psychological Association. He also works on broadly on issues related to health and human rights. Clinton received his PhD in Human Services Psychology in 2006 from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, where he was trained as a community and applied social psychologist. His research has focused on community interventions for improving men’s lives.
