Vienna Couple With 3 Monarch Butterfly Sanctuaries Hopeful
A local couple are doing their best to help the monarch butterflies survive in trying times.
Anne and Phil Lahar created their monarch-attracting and sustaining sanctuaries years ago in the Wendover Community of Vienna when they would get hundreds of "visitors" at this time. This year is different with the survival of monarchs in question. “Hope springs eternal” and some are appearing at last. The monarchs love the Lahar’s lush environment where they can move from plant-to- plant unperturbed. The Lahar's live on Spring Branch Drive, which backs onto Fairfax County Parkland and the W&OD.
Looking for a wonderful place to live with super friendly neighbors ? Think of Wendover. On the cusp of Oakton, Vienna, and Reston. Super friendly neighbors. Did you know “monarchs smell with their antennae?”. They taste nectar and water by the sensory hairs on their legs and feet.
