Water, Water ... Nowhere
Presentation & Discussion on Sunday, Jan 31 at 12:30pm in Oakton

The shortage of water for personal, agricultural and commercial users in the American Southwest and in California, in particular, is urgent. There are conflicting interests at play. Is there anything that consumers can do to help solve the problem? Will the problem ever go away, or are people condemned to a future of chronic water shortages? And what caused this problem, anyway?
In part, the ancient history of droughts is driving the current shortage. Contemporary farming and ranching practices, reliance on deep water wells and fast-depleting aquifers are making the shortages worse—exacerbated by the consequences of drought, including fires, floods and threats to wildlife. This presentation will examine what government is doing to alleviate the shortages and what consumers can do to cope with them.
The featured speaker for Water, Water ... Nowhere will be Mr. Raoul Drapeau. Mr. Drapeau is a high-tech entrepreneur, author, inventor of consumer and commercial products, lecturer on historical topics and a commercial arbitrator. He holds electrical engineering degrees from Cornell University and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and has published numerous articles in technical and historical journals focusing on the World War II period. His first novel, a technothriller titled, The Fat Man’s Disk, is available as an ebook.
