Young Men's Service League Vienna-Oakton Celebrates Over 6000 Hours of Community Service and Welcomes the Class of 2021

YMSL initiates and encourages young men and their mothers to pursue philanthropic involvement in their community.

Young Men’s Service League Vienna-Oakton (YMSLVO) celebrates three years of impact through over 6,000 hours of service to assist, serve and support those in need in our community and welcomes 31 Moms and 32 rising high school freshman boys in the Class of 2021.

YMSLVO’s focus on “Philanthropy, Education and Leadership” provides members and their sons the opportunity to volunteer in our community, improve leadership skills, and develop new life skills. In addition to the required 20 hours of philanthropy work with YMSLVO’s Philanthropy Partners, boys attend and lead meetings designed to expand their knowledge and experience on civic responsibility and life skills and choices.

President Helen Bath said “YMSLVO’s impact can be seen in the work we do with our Philanthropy Partners and our network of young men taking on increased responsibility within our organization and in our community.”

Over the past year, members of the Classes of 2019 and 2020 performed over 3300 hours of service with YMSLVO’s 17 Philanthropy Partners – ranging from a transformative project at Northern Virginia Family Service to weekly opportunities to serve those in need at the Community of Faith food pantry.

“The impact YMSVLO’s moms and sons has had on the Community of Faith has been tremendous,” said Pastor Rob Vaughn, Community of Faith. “Each week, our clients are greeted by YMSLVO moms and boys who are ready to serve – and sort, carry, and engage – to make our food pantry a warm and welcoming experience for those in need.”
