Alexandria Small Business Grants Up To $7K To Be Awarded, Applications Open

The City of Alexandria's latest small business grant program is providing up to $7,000 in assistance to each selected business.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Support for small businesses continues in Alexandria as businesses continue to face challenges like high costs post-pandemic.

On Tuesday, applications are launching for the City of Alexandria's 2024 Small Business Resiliency Grant program, which received funds from the city. The program will provide up to $7,000 in grants to eligible small businesses to help with challenges in accessing essential resources.

The grant program is being administered by the Latino Economic Development Center. Applications will be accepted between May 28 and 4 p.m. on June 18.

Eligible businesses must have one or more locations, including a principal location, within the City of Alexandria. Other criteria includes having 100 or less employees, being in business with revenue before Dec. 31, 2023, have business revenue not above $250,000 in 2022 or 2023, being current on local taxes or on a payment plan, and not being in bankruptcy proceedings. Nonprofits, banks, financial institutions, and gig economy contractors are not eligible. Corporate-owned locations and franchises businesses are not eligible unless locally owned and operated within Alexandria.

Businesses receiving grants will be prioritized by those not receiving previous federally-funded grant programs like Back 2 Business. Those in census tracts with low indicators of economic opportunity will also receive priority. Census tracts with higher scores are higher on the priority list — scores range between 3 and 12.

Interested applicants can attend a Small Business Resiliency Grant Assistance session on June 3 from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Charles Houston Recreation Center, 901 Wythe St. A recording of the virtual session hosted by the Latino Economic Development Center on May 23 is available to view.
