UPDATE: Power Restored to T.C. Williams High School Wednesday

As of 1 p.m., more than 300 homes in Alexandria are still without power.

UPDATE 1 p.m.: Chinquapin Rec Center is open after the power was restored Wednesday; more than 300 homes are still without power in the City after powerful thunderstorms swept through the area overnight.

UPDATE 9:30 a.m.: The Chinquapin Recreation Center is closed until further notice due to a power failure resulting from overnight storms. City staff is monitoring this situation and is working with the power company to restore power as quickly as possible. Visit www.alexandriava.gov/Recreation for updated cancellation information.

UPDATE 8:50 a.m.: While power has been restored to some homes Wednesday morning, there are still 1,802 without power. The City reports that T.C. Williams is without power Wednesday morning.

Powerful thunderstorms overnight knocked out power to thousands in Alexandria. As of about 5:45 a.m. Wednesday, a Dominion Power outage map showed that 3,050 homes are without power in Alexandria.

Dots representing outages on the map show pockets of homes throughout the city are without power. Estimated restoration times were not available.

Alexandria appears to be the hardest hit in the region. Arlington also is seeing outages, 2,347 as of about 5:45 a.m. Fairfax County has 2,604 homes without power.

Residents are urged to stay away from any power lines that are down.

Today’s high temperatures are expected to get to about 85 degrees for Alexandria, according to the National Weather Service.

A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect Wednesday morning for Alexandria, from the National Weather Service, from 7-10 a.m.
