395 Lane Closures For Express Lane Project Coming Near Alexandria
VDOT will close some regular lanes of Interstate 395 on weekends beginning on April 26.
ALEXANDRIA, VA—Construction for the Interstate 395 Express Lanes project will result in lane closures near Alexandria for several weekends. Closures between the Springfield interchange and DC line will start on April 26.
For the weekend of April 26-28, double lane closures will happen on northbound I-395 from Duke Street (Exit 3) to past Pentagon City/Crystal City (Exit 8C). The closures will stretch from 10 p.m. Friday to Sunday afternoon. HOV lanes will remain open in the northbound direction. The Duke Street ramps to I-395 north will be closed. Drivers should follow detour signs.
The work is expected to last for at least four weekends, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. During each weekend, two regular lanes of I-395 will be closed Friday nights through Monday mornings. The lane closures will alternate between the northbound and southbound sides depending on the work. At least two lanes will remain open during peak daytime travel times.

The 395 Express Lanes project will extend the express lanes by eight miles to the DC line. The current express lanes extend from Stafford to beyond Edsall Road. The three new, reversible express lanes will be added from one new lane and the two existing HOV lanes. The express lanes, operated by Transurban, are expected to open in fall 2019.
