5 Exciting Business Openings Coming Soon In Alexandria

There's a lot to look forward to in Alexandria early this year, from a new boutique to Mia's Kitchen at the 100 King Street building.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—The weather may be cold, but the business atmosphere is hot in Alexandria. A number of businesses are set to open around the city this winter and spring.

Here are businesses planning to open soon:

  1. Smoking Kow BBQ: Owner Dylan Kough will expand his food truck business into a storefront in West End Alexandria in February. His varieties of barbecue meats served in sandwiches, platters, tacos and Mac ‘N Meat, the bestselling mac and cheese combo, have delighted foodies on to go around DC.
  2. Wear Ever Jewelry: Jennifer Jordan Park will open a storefront for hand-crafted jewelry made by herself and other artists. She brings 10 years of experience running her business online and at craft shows. The store will also offer fun jewelry making classes. The opening is set for February at 1112 King Street.
  3. Mia's Italian Kitchen: Some locals call 100 King Street cursed, but in its place will be one of the most anticipated restaurant openings of the year. Mia's Italian Kitchen will likely open in April, offering Italian staples like pizza by the slice and pasta specialities for dine-in or takeout. It will take the place of Carluccio's, which suddenly closed last summer.
  4. Founders Hall: A new space containing retail and co-working space is slated to open in April at 106 N. Lee Street. The former warehouse will include pop-up retail, a South Block Juice and Vikriya Yoga on the ground floor and a co-working space called ALX Community on the second floor.
  5. Charlie's On The Avenue: Around May, the owners of Live Oak will open a new restaurant at the former FireFlies, which closed Christmas Eve 2017 after 15 years in business. Alexandria Times reports it will offer locally-sourced salads, sandwiches and entrees in a casual atmosphere, and the owners hope to offer a setting to watch sports on the weekends.
