5 Questions With Sugar Shack Donuts In Alexandria
The owner of Alexandria's Sugar Shack talks the popular Butterbeer donuts and special fall events.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Almost three years ago, Sugar Shack donuts brought its craveable, hand-made donuts to Alexandria. Since then, customers could expect rotating varieties of donuts.
Started in Richmond, Sugar Shack has become a local phenomenon with locations in Alexandria, Arlington and Washington, DC. Recently its new Harry Potter-themed Butterbeer donuts topped with a golden Snitch have gotten national media attention—and they sure sell out fast. (If you want to try them, you'll have to stop in during October.)
Patch got in touch with owner Rob Krupicka to talk popular donut flavors and doing business in Alexandria. Here are five questions we asked.

1. How long have you been in business?
The Alexandria store has been open for almost 3 years.

2. What made you decide to open?
Every culture has a fried dough tradition. It one is the best bring-people-together foods. It makes people happy.
3. What are your some of the popular varieties of donuts?
We pride ourselves on our huge selection. Maple Bacon and Red Velvet are always a hit. Our new Butter Beer donut is the fastest seller we have had.
4. What is your favorite part of doing business in Alexandria?
It is a great community that values a locally made product and wants to give back.
5. What kind of special offerings and events for October and the rest of the fall?
We have our famous gnome and goat scavenger hunt. In Arlington, we are doing a few great beer and Halloween nights. Our restaurant, Captain Gregory's is doing a big Halloween party.
