9/11 Remembrance Ceremony To Be Held In Alexandria Saturday
A remembrance ceremony will be held Saturday, and the Tower of Light tribute at the Pentagon may be visible in Alexandria.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The City of Alexandria will recognize the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks with a remembrance ceremony on Saturday.
The ceremony will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Sept. 11 at Waterfront Park, 1A Prince Street. The event will remember those who died and those who were injured or otherwise affected, show appreciation to those who responded, and honor those who gave their lives to save others. There were 16 victims of the 9/11 attacks from Alexandria, and first responders from the city were among those who responded to the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001.
The ceremony will feature remarks from Mayor Justin Wilson and public safety representatives, including Fire and EMS Chief Corey Smedley, Acting Police Chief Don Hayes and Sheriff Dana Lawhorne. There will also be a wreath-laying and "Return to Quarters" bell-ringing ceremony.

Alexandria residents can spot the Tower of Light tribute illuminating the sky above the Pentagon through early Sunday. The Tower of Light honors the people who died when American Airlines Flight 77 was crashed into the Pentagon, killing all 64 people on the plane and 125 people in the building. Similar light tributes are planned at the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania and at the World Trade Center in New York City. The lights will be illuminated each night from Thursday night to the early morning hours on Sunday.
