9/11 Remembrance Ceremony Returns To Alexandria In 2023

The 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the victims will be remembered during a ceremony.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — To remember the victims, survivors and first responders of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Alexandria will host its annual remembrance ceremony on Monday, Sept. 11.

The ceremony will take place from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Market Square, 301 King St. In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to City Hall at the same address.

Nearly 3,000 Americans were killed in the suicide attacks carried out by 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group Al-Qaeda. Many of the victims were killed in the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, and additional victims died in the attack on the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and the hijacked plane crash near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. There were 16 victims from Alexandria who were killed at the Pentagon or on a hijacked flight.
