After Off-Campus Fatal Stabbing Of Alexandria Student, Arrest Made
Alexandria Police have charged a 16-year-old in the stabbing death of an Alexandria City High School student.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — An arrest has been made in the fatal stabbing of an Alexandria City High School student at the Bradlee Shopping Center, according to Alexandria Police.
Police arrested and charged a 16-year-old Alexandria resident with murder. He is currently being held at the Northern Virginia Juvenile Detention Center. Police do not publicly release the names of juvenile suspects.
The victim in the stabbing had been identified as Luis Mejia Hernandez, 18, of Alexandria. Mejia Hernandez had been a senior at Alexandria City High School.

Alexandria Police had responded to a large fight at the shopping center on May 24. During the fight, the victim had been critically injured and was taken to the hospital, where he died of his injuries.
Due to the student's death, Alexandria City High School transitioned students to virtual learning. This week, limited students who need to complete graduation requirements are returning to campuses with additional security measures in place. The senior class has its graduation this upcoming Saturday.

"On behalf of the whole Titan community, I would like to again express our condolences and support for the family of Luis Mejía Hernández," Superintendent Gregory Hutchings Jr. wrote to families. "Our team will continue to support our students, staff and families."
The investigation into the fatal stabbing is ongoing, police said.
