Alexandria Butcher Faces Allegation Of Having Rabbits For Sale
DC Poultry Market, a halal butcher that is permitted to sell poultry, is accused of keeping rabbits on site to sell.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A halal butcher permitted to sell poultry in Alexandria was accused of keeping rabbits on site for sale.
DC Poultry Market, located at 3225 Colvin St., received a warning from the city related to the potential violation, the Alexandria Times first reported. The newspaper alleged rabbits appeared in videos at DC Poultry Market, and the business once responded to a customer saying rabbits were available.
No violations were found when the city's planning and zoning inspected the business. However, NBC Washington said the business manager told the city's planning and zoning director that they had sold rabbits, prompting the city's warning.

City Council had approved DC Poultry Market's special use permit in 2019 with a 5-2 vote. Alexandria Times noted the business had faced several complaints since opening, including a garbage spill the business owner attributed to the garbage pickup company's error. A report of the business leaving doors open led the business to close them, and no further complaints were reported.
