Alexandria City Council Approves New Memory Care Center
Center will be built on lot between Woodbine and Ivy Hill Cemetery.
The Alexandria City Council on Saturday approved a somewhat controversial three-story building project for what will become Alexandria Memory Care, next to the Woodbine nursing home on King Street in Alexandria.
The new building was proposed by developer 2811 King Street LLC, Graham Adelman, president and owner of Cambridge Healthcare Management, based in Richmond, owner of Woodbine and nursing homes in Richmond, Charlottesville and Colonial Beach.
Adelman asked the City to rezone the land and approve the building plan.

Groups have voiced opinions on the development, both pro and con. The group, Taylor Run Citizens Association (TRCA), was concerned about the size of the building and potential for additional traffic.
“We’ve worked very hard to address concerns of the community,” M. Catharine Puskar, a representative for the developer said at the Planning Commission meeting earlier this month. The company reduced the building height, increased the setback, increased open space and reduced the width of the building.
