Alexandria Hit-And-Run Suspect Arrested In Texas: Police

A wanted man who police say struck an Alexandria officer with his car in late December was located and arrested in Houston.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A man wanted in an Alexandria domestic assault and hit-and-run case has been arrested in Texas, according to the Alexandria Police Department.

One Alexandria police officer was struck and another was injured in the hit-and-run on Dec. 27, 2021, according to police. Officers had responded to an armed person in a domestic dispute in the 2400 block of Mandeville Lane. The suspect, Chukwunyere Onuoha, fled the scene when police located him in the 200 block of Swamp Fox Road.

As Onuoha left the scene, police say he struck one officer with the vehicle and injured another who tried to avoid being struck. Both officers were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and were released.

Onuoha was arrested in Houston, Texas on Tuesday. Alexandria Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit located the suspect with help from the U.S. Marshals Task Force and the Houston Police Department. Onuoha is being held in Houston and will be extradited to Alexandria and be charged with assault and battery on law enforcement, hit-and-run, and other charges. Police say Onuoha has multiple warrants from other localities around the U.S. and has evaded law enforcement since 2019.
