ALEXANDRIA, VA — RunningBrooke continues to work to promote children's physical activity, but it will do so under a new name. The Alexandria nonprofit was recently renamed Move2Learn.

"While our name has changed, our vision remains the same," said Brooke Sydnor Curran, founder and CEO of RunningBrooke, now Move2Learn, in a video message. "We use movement to transform learning so all students are learning at their best."

As the new name suggests, Move2Learn uses movement to help students' learning, provide students and teachers with tools in the classroom to promote movement, and teach students and teachers about the mind-body connection and role of movement in social, emotion and academic wellbeing. The nonprofit has a particular focus on traditionally underserved students.

Programs are provided in Alexandria City Public Schools and are covered through the nonprofit. Among the in-school programs are active seating, stationary bikes, teacher trainings, movement challenges and toolkits.

Curran started the nonprofit with personal experience in mind.

"As a kid in school, I couldn't sit still. I couldn't focus," said Curran. "I didn't know what was wrong with me. What I learned later in life that what I needed then was to move more."

The name change also seeks to usher in a new era for the nonprofit by identifying unmet needs for new programs, finding new ways to apply the mission and finding new partnerships with the community to promote movement in learning.
