Alexandria Officer Struck On Head By Car Vandal (ICYMI)
A police officer was hospitalized after being attacked by a vandal in Old Town Alexandria. ICYMI

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Alexandria Police responded to an officer-involved shooting at St. Asaph Street and King Street Wednesday, July 12. Alexandria Police responded to a call for a disorderly man attempting to smash in car windows. When the first officer arrived at the scene, the suspect assaulted her, striking her in the head.
Around 6:45 a.m., police had responded to reports of a man attempting to smash car windows. The suspect struck a 34-year-old female officer with a hard object. The officer fired a gun, and no one was injured from the bullet, but the officer was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Other officers arriving on scene took the suspect into custody.
Clyde Eugene Reynolds, 51, was charged with malicious wounding of a police officer and is being held without bond.

Police have not released an identification of the officer. The officer will be placed on paid administrative leave after leaving the hospital, which is the protocol after an officer discharges a weapon.

Traffic on King and St. Asaph Streets was closed to cars and pedestrians Wednesday morning. Police continue to investigate and interview witnesses. Anyone with information should contact Detective Loren King at 703-746-6689.
