Alexandria Police Investigate Shooting on First Street

A man was hospitalized with gunshot wounds, according to police.

The Alexandria Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred Saturday night in the 1000 block of First Street (see map) that put a man in the hospital with several gunshot wounds.

Police released more details of the shooting Monday afternoon.

At approximately 10:14 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a report of a shooting on First Street. When they got there, officers located a 31 year-old man, who was suffering from injuries to the lower body, according to police.

The man, who is not a resident of the City, was transported to a local hospital, police said. At the hospital, the victim’s injuries were identified as several non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, according to police.

Police did not provide a description of the suspect.

The location of Saturday night’s shooting is about four blocks from a July 2 fatal shooting, near 700 N. Fayette Street, that has prompted several meetings with the community and police. No one has been arrested for that shooting.
