Alexandria Remembrance Ceremony To Honor 9/11 Victims

The public can attend the ceremony to remember the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria will remember the victims and people impacted by the 9/11 terrorist attacks in a ceremony on Wednesday, Sept. 11. All are invited to attend from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Market Square.

The event remembers those killed, injured or otherwise affected by the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, as well as honor those who gave their lives to save others. The attacks hit close to home for Alexandria, whose firefighters were part of the response at the Pentagon.

The ceremony will include remarks from Mayor Justin Wilson, Acting Fire Chief Corey Smedley, Police Chief Michael Brown and Sheriff Dana Lawhorne. The tribute will also feature the "Return to Quarters" bell-ringing ceremony.

In the event of rain, the ceremony will be moved to the Lee Center Auditorium, 1108 Jefferson Street.
