Alexandria Shooting: Suspect Is One of Two Dead

BREAKING: Police say the shooter is one of the two that died Sunday night in All Veterans Park.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—The suspect in Sunday night's shooting at All Veterans Park in Alexandria is one of the two that died, police say.

Officers responded to the shooting around 8:45 p.m near North Pickett Street and Duke Street in the Landmark area. Three people were shot in all; the suspect shot himself, a 17-year-old Alexandria girl and a 15-year-old Alexandria boy.

The suspect, identified as Yerson Nunez Lopez, 19, of Maryland, and the 17-year-old girl died on the scene. The 15-year-old boy went to the hospital with serious injuries and is in stable condition. Alexandria Police do not believe the incident is gang-related and say the suspect and victims knew each other. The name of the girl has not been released.

Authorities determined there was no threat to the community outside the park. The Fairfax County police helicopter has assisted with a search around the area before investigations determined the shooting was contained to the park.

The shooting marks the sixth homicide in the city this year.
