Alexandria St. Patrick's Day Parade Postponed To Later In 2022
The Ballyshaners, which hosts the parade, cited funding uncertainties and the inability to get a permit in time.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria will get a St. Patrick's Day Parade in 2022, but it won't be during the usual month of March.
The Ballyshaners, a volunteer organization that organizes the parade, announced the parade is postponed to Saturday, Sept. 17 at 12 p.m. Because of the date, the parade will be called the Halfway to St. Patrick's Day Parade.
In a Facebook post, the Ballyshaners explained the reasoning for the postponement.

"Our parades typically cost tens of thousands of dollars and require months of careful planning, and the past two years have been difficult for our members, sponsors, and local businesses," the post read. "Due to funding uncertainties and because we were unable to procure a permit in time to ensure the parade could go on as planned, the Ballyshaners made the difficult decision to postpone the 2022 parade."
With the postponement, the Ballyshaners will have more time to work on fundraising and with the City of Alexandria. A fundraiser is still planned for Saturday, Feb. 19 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Mattie & Eddie's, 1301 S Joyce St, Arlington, VA. The organization is seeking donations and volunteers.
