Alexandria’s premier world-class annual celebration of the arts, the Alexandria King Street Art Festival, returns to historic Old Town September 19-20, 2015 with a vast array of eclectic artwork by more than 250 of finest artists in the country. This popular and highly anticipated two-day outdoor street fair has been consistently ranked among the top art fairs in the country by Sunshine Artist, the nation’s leading publication for art and craft shows. The festival is produced by national festival promoter Howard Alan Events and hosted by the City of Alexandria. Admission is free and open to the public.

Bold and vibrant paintings, contemporary and whimsical art, life-size sculptures, photography and jewelry are among the many works of art that will be featured along King Street from Washington Street to the Potomac River. All of the exhibitors will be present for the duration of the event and welcome the opportunity to meet festival patrons and art enthusiasts who are encouraged to engage the artists as they explore the original and unique art. A free giveaway will feature the work of a participating artist.

A variety of interactive activities will be offered throughout the weekend, including The Art League’s popular Ice Cream Bowl Fundraiser. Patrons can purchase one of 1,000 hand-made bowls created by the talented artists of The Art League’s ceramics department and enjoy a scoop of ice cream, all for only $15 per bowl, the proceeds of which benefit The Art League. Participants in the Ice Cream Bowl Fundraiser may enter a free drawing to win ceramic artwork and an Art League gift certificate. In addition, festivalgoers may participate in fun, hands-on art activities with League instructors during the weekend.

For kid-friendly activities, visit The Art League tents near Market Square at the corner of King Street and N. Fairfax Street on both days of the festival. Kids ages 10 and up can take part in a 3-D jewelry project led by Art League instructor Michael Brehl. There will be another fun hands-on art activity for kids younger than 10.

Stretching along King Street from Washington Street to the Potomac River waterfront, the King Street Art Festival helms Alexandria’s vibrant arts and culture scene. Complete with an amazing array of culinary delights, stylish boutiques featuring scores of handmade art and jewelry plus historic sites all nestled amidst beautifully-preserved 18th- and early 19th-century architecture, Alexandria is the ideal artful getaway.
