Banana Republic, Gap Closing In Alexandria, Retail Space Available

The new property owner for the space at Washington and King Streets will seek new retail to lease on the ground floor.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The Banana Republic and Gap that grace the corner of King and Washington Streets in Old Town Alexandria will be no more early next year.

Douglas Development, the new property owner of 628 King Street, confirmed Banana Republic and Gap will close by the end of January 2022. The spaces will be available to lease after the stores close. A spokesperson for Douglas Development confirmed the space will be available for retail leasing, and office space will be available on the second floor.

The new property owner closed on the purchase of 628 King Street for $7.3 million. The ground floor includes 6,572 square feet of space, the second floor has 6,620 square feet of office space with two suites, and the basement has 6,432 square feet of space.

This portion of King Street has a mix of national retailers and locally-based restaurants and boutiques. One of the newest businesses coming to the King and Washington intersection will be Foxtrot, a convenience store offering prepared foods and grocery selections for pickup or delivery.
