Blind Ambition
Daisy, a blind 7-year-old puggle, learns to navigate towards distinct sounds and is rewarded with tasty treats. Daisy is available for adoption from the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.
Meet Daisy, a saucy little 7-year-old puggle who just happens to be blind. Blind dogs learn their way around by creating a mental “map” of their surroundings, but it takes time. The shelter can be confusing maze full of things for Daisy to bonk into and since Daisy’s got places to go and people to meet, she tends to heedlessly forge ahead.
Daisy’s intelligence and eagerness to learn are on display in this this video, as she learns to navigate toward distinct sounds, like finger snaps and jingling bells, and to touch her nose to a hand or a target stick. AWLA volunteer Karen Baragona shows potential adopters a glimpse of how they can help Daisy improve her orientation skills and maintain contact with her human companions.
