Return to Your Active Life with Physical Therapy

A Physical Therapist can be your biggest ally in returning to your active life. Ann Wendel, owner of Prana Physical Therapy, would like to show you the value of having your own physical therapist.

Return to your active life with Physical Therapy

You probably know that the profession of physical therapy exists; but, unless you have had personal experience with a physical therapist, you may have no idea why we are a valued member of the healthcare team. I would like to tell you a bit about who we are and what we do, as well as show you the value of having your own physical therapist.

The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), headquartered in Alexandria, provides the following definition of our role: Physical therapists (PTs) are health care professionals who diagnose and treat individuals of all ages, from newborns to the very oldest, who have medical problems or other health-related conditions that limit their abilities to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives.

PTs examine each individual and develop a plan using treatment techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability. In addition, PTs work with individuals to prevent the loss of mobility before it occurs by developing fitness- and wellness-oriented programs for healthier and more active lifestyles.

What does this mean for you? It means that physical therapists are highly trained (currently, entry level degree is a Doctorate of Physical Therapy) to help you return to your active life. A physical therapist can help you if you have:
