This Spring, Learn Art Inside and Out

Spring classes at The Art League School in Old Town are starting soon — but it's not too late to register!

Spring classes at The Art League School in Old Town are starting soon — but it’s not too late to register! We have classes in all the fine arts and crafts for beginners and more experienced artists alike, including a two-day workshop on painting children's rooms and several outdoor classes. (For summer art camps and workshops for kids and teens five and up, check out this blog post!)

In addition to our nine-week classes starting the week of April 8, there are shorter-term workshops taking place over a day or two. Here’s just some of what’s on tap one upcoming weekend:

  • Drawing the Human Head with Rick Weaver (April 6 & 7): Working from a live model, learn the principles behind drawing the head, including the mechanics and anatomy of the head and neck.
  • Basic Photographic Lighting Tools with Robin Reid (April 6): Learn about tools like flash, strobe, reflectors, umbrellas, gels, gobos, grids, and snoots, and how to make some of your own.
  • Painting Children’s Rooms with Patrick Kirwin (April 6 & 7): Painting and drawing instructor Patrick Kirwin shares ideas and techniques for creating a unique environment in a child’s room or nursery.

Or, take art outside with any of these painting and drawing classes: Plein Air and Paper with Bobbi Pratte starts April 11, Plein Air Landscape Painting with Sara Linda Poly starts April 23, Sketchbooks with Stephen Procopio starts April 25, Plein Air Landscape Monotypes with Bobbi Pratte and Penny Barringer is May 30 and 31, Weekends in the Plein Air Landscape with Mike Francis and Landscape Painting with Fred Markham both start May 4, and Avis Fleming teaches two sketchbook workshops in June: Old Town and Old Town and National Zoo.
