Waterfront Operations Update: June 3 – June 7

Alexandria Park and Recreation Commission to Hold Public Hearing on Capital Improvement Program External Project Requests

Several project requests include waterfront parks. Please view the attached document for more information.

Regular Maintenance:

  • Mowing at all parks is on a 7-10 day mowing schedule.
  • Weed control application on walkways and mulched areas will continue throughout the season. 
    Herbicide:  MSDS
    Pre-emergent:  MSDS 
  • Mulching/weeding around park trees and planting areas will continue throughout the season.
  • Founder’s park dog park turf rope is now down. Areas will be monitored and turf plugs will be used in bare spots to encourage turf growth.
  • Summer/fall turf plans are being reviewed. Some aeration at heavy traffic areas and over-seeding with warm season turf varieties are being considered for the summer.

Projects:

 

Windmill Hill:

  • The cement at the area near the volleyball court is repaired and a bollard installed to limit vehicular access.  
  • The step’s wall at the 500 block of Lee St. have been repaired.
  • Several picnic table and bench pads are being installed, the picnic table pads will be flagstone to match the existing stone walkways. New tables are on order to replace the existing ones.
  • We are relocating several benches for temporary use around the bulkhead. This is planned for this week (delayed from last week due to rain).

 

Founder’s Park: 

  • Replacing the French drain at the low area of Founders Park with a faster drainage option.
  • Water fountain is being installed near Northwest entrance of park.
  • Two benches are being placed on the Southwest area to mirror the two benches on the Northwest area.

 

Point Lumley & Roberdeau:

  • Installation/repairs of timbers and minor landscaping work (Complete)
