City Council Honors Alexandria Volunteers During Pandemic
Over 3,400 volunteers have helped during the pandemic, including the Alexandria Medical Reserve Corps aiding the health department.
ALEXANDRIA, VA — On Tuesday, Alexandria City Council recognized the contributions of over 3,400 volunteers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
City Council issued a resolution "who have helped others during this year of unprecedented challenge." These volunteers assisted with efforts such as making and distributing face masks, providing translation services, answering emergency assistance hotlines, delivering meals and groceries, providing legal services, helping at food banks and food distributions, writing grant applications, fundraising and more.
In addition, Alexandria Medical Reserve Corps volunteers helped the Alexandria Health Department answer the COVID-19 hotline, provided infection prevention coaching, conducted contact tracing and case investigations, supported testing events and flu clinics, and fitted city staff with personal protective equipment. These volunteers will continue to help with the city's COVID-19 response amid recent case increases and anticipated vaccination efforts.
