Silberberg mostly ran on a campaign of taking a more careful approach to development in the City of Alexandria and had backing of historic preservationists and others. NBC-4 reports that Silberberg’s campaign was helped with votes from Republicans unhappy with Euille.

Phil Cefaratti, running as an Independent candidate to win a seat on the Alexandria City Council, congratulated Silberberg’s win:

“The results are now official. I congratulate Allison, her entire campaign team, and all of her volunteers and supporters in her very successful effort of wining Alexandria’s Democratic Mayoral Primary,” said Cefaratti. “If the people of our great city elect me to the Alexandria City Council, this November, I look forward to working with Allison to help move Alexandria forward for the next three years, and beyond.”

“I also want to thank Mayor Bill Euille for his years of dedicated service to his hometown and as Alexandria’s mayor these past 12 years,” he said.
