Everyone experiences anxiety at some point or another. Fortunately, it is treatable! Here's a tip to help you and your child.

Everyone experiences anxiety at some point or another. Fortunately, it is treatable! Here’s a tip to help you and your child.

Practice Deep Belly Breathing! Most people know that taking deep breaths is helpful when feeling anxious. But are you doing it right? When practicing deep belly breathing:

  • Sit up tall
  • Place one hand on your chest and one hand on your belly
  • Take a deep breath in through your nose and hold it briefly
  • You should notice that your chest does not move, but your belly inflates with air and starts to push your hand out
  • As you release the breath slowly through your mouth, your belly should start to flatten
  • Do this for 1-2 minutes, then gradually increase the length of time to your liking
