District Taco Now Open for Business in Old Town

District Taco opened for business this week in Old Town Alexandria, at 701 S. Washington St.

The restaurant is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. This is the company’s fifth location, with three in DC and two in Northern Virginia. The company is reportedly searching for another location in Crystal City.

Owner Osiris Hoil was born and raised in Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula in the small town of Tekax. He came to the United States in 1999, and became a U.S. citizen two years ago, after first applying in 2004, according to ARLnow. He started his restaurant business as a food truck five years ago, after getting laid off as a construction worker.

The mission of District Taco “is to serve quality Mexican (Yucatan style!) food that is fresh, simple and healthy,” according to the company Web site. “All of our food is made fresh daily from quality ingredients. We strive to limit our impact on the environment by serving in environmentally-friendly packaging where possible.”

The menu at District Taco includes breakfast burritos, huevos rancheros, tacos and burritos with your choice of all sorts of toppings including carnitas (slow cooked pulled pork), carne asada (grilled chopped steak), pollo asado (grilled chicken), barbacoa (slow-cooked shredded beef), al pastor (carved rotisserie pork marinated with guajillo and served with chopped pineapple) and vegeterian (no meat, guacamole at no charge).

In addition to onions and pico de gallo, shredded cheese and grilled veggies, there will also be vegetarian black or pinto beans.

Although not on its Web site, the restaurant does mention fish tacos on its Twitter feed. The menu also lists cerveza (beer) and there are photos of coffee in some Twitter pictures with its breakfast tacos and huevos rancheros.
