2nd Annual Community Stage Play "Real Cuts"

Theatrical Synopsis:  Real Cuts is set in modern day Old Town Alexandria in a historically minority community called the Berg. The play charts the life experiences of residents and the owners of the Real Cuts Hair Salon as it relates to their encounters with the paucity of male role models in the community. It covers the challenges of the aforementioned male absence and the victories from understanding the true meaning of manhood and reconciliation. The focus is not to male bash but rather highlight the qualities of a good man and father, which is direly needed especially in the lives of  youth.

Music for this production covers a wide genre from blues,
to reggae, to R&B and gospel to also capture a sense of the diversity that exists even in the black community. A noteworthy composition of the cast are actual residents of the Berg. The production was written and directed by Jason A. Ellis who is an employee of the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority, a PHA that provides affordable housing to residents in Alexandria.

All proceeds from this event will go to support a new playground for kids, located in Hopkins Court.  Tickets can be reserved or paid for in advance, or they may be purchased at the door.
