2nd Thursday Old Town: Pop Dot

Second Thursday Old Town kicks off on May 9 with Pop Dot - where Warhol goes polka! Pop art with a dash of surrealism are the inspiration for this evening's events.

Spot the Dot! Guests may vie for prizes in a "Spot the Dot" scavenger hunt and a polka dot costume contest. Accessorize for the costume contest by "dotting up" at our Do-It-Yourself Button-Making Station.

Swing by for Live Music Performances. Enjoy jazzy tunes by The Brian Litz Duo at the Torpedo Factory.


Target Gallery Reception. Visit Target Gallery from 6 to 8pm for the opening of Beyond Function, an exhibition featuring ceramic works that go beyond utility, seeking to be valued for their aesthetic quality over their usefulness.  In addition, juror Novie Trump will create a site-specific ceramic installation outside of the gallery. Stay for the gallery talk at 7pm.

The Art League Gallery. Stop into The Art League Gallery from 6:30 to 8pm for the reception for Noah Williams: One Man's Trash and the All-Media Membership Show.


One Million Bones, Torpedo Factory Main Hall. A temporary installation of ceramic "bones" created by local students as part of the One Million Bones project. Their mission is to get one million handmade bones crafted by students, artists, and activists around the world to be placed on the National Mall on June 8th to raise awareness of genocide and mass atrocities in Sudan, the Congo, Burma and Somalia.

  • The Athenaeum (201 Prince St.) presents Second Thursday Live Music: Mary Gordon Hall at 7pm. $10 admission. Patrons are invited to participate in a dot-themed game to win a free drink.

  • Alexandria Visitors Center (221 King). Free live music by Polka-inspired Seth Kibel Trio

  • Select boutiques will be open for shopping until 8pm including nearby Zoe Boutique, Coco Blanca, Mystique Jewelers, the Shoe Hive, and Hysteria. Over 35 members of the Old Town Boutique District will be open until 8 pm on Thursdays in May and June.
