
On the 29th of September, visitors are cordially invited to attend an evening of 18th century card games and refreshments on the Magnolia Terrace at Carlyle House. Beginning at 8 o'clock, the American Ladies, Jackie Geschickter and Pat Sowers, will be giving lessons on various card games dating back to the time of John Carlyle (1720-1780) who built the house in 1753. Card games will include Whist, Sept, and Solitaire. Also, guests can learn how to play dice games such as Newmarket and Shut the Box as well as how to build card towers. Some 18th century gaming artifacts will be on display, including mother of pearl markers and the museum's first floor will be open for self-guided tours. Light hors d'oeuvres and two drinks per visitor are included in the price of the ticket. The event will conclude at 10:00 PM. Cost is $50 per person and the event is open to anyone 21+.
