"Death of Ellsworth" Exhibit

When Union Colonel Elmer Ellsworth was killed at Alexandria’s Marshall House on May 24, 1861, his death made news across the country.

On exhibit is the original edition of the New-York Tribune from May 26, 1861, reporting on the “Murder of Col. Ellsworth” and the“Taking of Alexandria.”

This newspaper was donated by Diane Riker, a volunteerresearcher and writer for Alexandria Archaeology.
