Rebecca is a creative problem-solver whose innate curiosity and outgoing personality enable her to take risks in her artistic endeavors. For her senior thesis as a sculpture student at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), Rebecca chose to forgo traditional materials and concocted a visually provocative putty/paint substance she calls “Goo”. Despite the risks of working with an untested material, she invited the challenge to her artistic ingenuity as her creative process became one of endless experimentation. Rebecca will sculpt the dynamic material in a live demonstration as she discusses her development as an artist and the factors of her material innovation.
Rebecca Lasky is a native of Washington, DC, who attended DC Public Schools like her mother before her. Her advanced skills in math and art originally led her to study architecture. At age 15 she completed Cornell University’s rigorous pre-college Architecture program. Months later her work was chosen for a year-long exhibition at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. Rebecca switched majors from Architecture to Sculpture so that she could express herself more freely while continuing to work in three dimensions.
Her time at RISD was a period of intense creativity and learning and education in the art world continues with her current position as the Marketing and Administrative Assistant for the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, Virginia.
